Isshinryu is a karate style which was developed in Okinawa by Master Tatsuo Shimabuku. He studies and mastered Gojuryu and Shorinryu karate. Learning from these methods, he realized that combining both the arts can create a karate form which will involve more mental and physical efforts. He named it Isshinryu to symbolize the strengthening of the heart. Isshinryu can be easily recognized by the vertical punch with the thumb on top to keep the wrist and fist stiff. These vertical punches can give a devastating blow and can also defend oneself.
